recorded on March 24, 2025 using OBS played in Project64 1.6 (emulator) controller is DS4 splits using LiveSplit controller overlay using GamePad Viewer (dot) com Finally got the sub 20 after almost 4 months playing, practicing, and learning from other speedrunners. I started speedrunning at the beginning of December 2024. I was inspired to do this because of a speedrunner streamer named Squeex and I just thought it'd be fun to do something new every once and a while and I thought Super Mario 64, being very saturated with speedrunners, was going to be worth the try. I also really wanted to use my DS4 controller that's just been sitting on my desk for quite some time. I have not actually played this game nor have I speedran any game ever but I still went on to do this challenge. Along the way, I made several several mistakes and even crucial ones that ended my runs such as falling in bowser worlds, missing my throws, messing up my movement, and especially doing BLJs. But every one of these mistakes led me to learn more about the game and understand what scenarios I should avoid or what I should go for. I spent quite some time polishing my movements and coming up with simple setups that I can do to make parts of my runs more consistent because I am not a fan winging things. It was frustrating, but most of the time I actually found myself enjoying the whole process Some of you might notice my controller overlay and might get confused as to why my inputs are laid out the way they are and it's because of the cannonless trick. When I was still learning cannonless, I failed that shi like 9000 times when I was using my left joystick to control mario; somehow I decided to use the right joystick instead and ever since that I almost always hit cannonless because of it. I then changed the other inputs as well to fit my weird hand placement and that's how I ended up playing with this strange layout. It also didn't really take that long to get used to. Thank you for reading!
