⚡ In this video, we explain Electric Field and Electric Field Intensity from the basics, with concepts, formulas, field line patterns, and numerical problems. It is useful for Intermediate (1st/2nd year) students and for MDCAT, ECAT, and other entry test preparation.
🔹 What you will learn:
What is an electric field and why do we need the concept?
The idea of a "test charge" and why it must be very small
Definition of electric field intensity (E)
Formula: E = F/q₀
Electric field due to a point charge: E = kQ/r² = Q / 4πε₀r²
SI unit of electric field intensity: N/C (or V/m)
Electric field intensity is a vector quantity, so its direction matters
Direction of the field: away from a positive charge, toward a negative charge
Electric field lines and their properties:
They start from positive charge and end on negative charge
They never cross each other
Closer lines mean a stronger field
The tangent at any point gives the direction of the field
Field patterns of a single charge, two opposite charges (dipole), and two like charges
Uniform electric field between two parallel plates
Force on a charge in an electric field: F = qE
Solved numerical problems
📌 Key formulas:
E = F / q₀
E = kQ / r²
F = qE
k = 9 × 10⁹ N·m²/C²
🎯 Important for exams:
Definition of electric field intensity
Difference between electric field and electric force
Properties of electric field lines
Numericals on E = kQ/r² and F = qE
