How can peatland forest management contribute to climate change mitigation? Peatlands play a crucial role in the global carbon cycle, but understanding their climate impact is far more complex than simply asking whether a forest is drained or undrained. In this part one of our two-part video series on Climate Change Mitigation Measures in Peatland Management in Latvia, produced by ALFAwetlands project partner, the Latvian State Forest Research Institute “Silava”, we explore: how peatlands and peatland forests develope in Latvia, how forests with wet and drained organic soils store and release carbon, the role of CO₂, methane and nitrous oxide emissions and more. Watch the video and explore the topic further. Discover more about ALFAwetlands and its results here: https://alfawetlands.eu/.
