'Autumn' The nights draw in, the leaves fall down Their lush greens turning to red and to brown The temperature drops the days get colder The heating goes on in early October When you wake up, and it isn't light You want to lie in, it must still be night It gets harder and harder to get out of bed Winter around the corner fills you with dread In all the shops you're reminded Halloween is near And soon they'll be stocking all the Christmas gear Then the trick or treaters will knock on your door Followed by the fireworks of bonfires galore Summer has passed, and gone far away Bikinis and swimming trunks not needed today The memories of holidays of your time in the sun Now distant and longing of sunbathing and fun And it will soon be winter with Christmas to come With early dark nights and very little sun And as we eat and drink for Christmas cheer Remember, Summer will be back, in just about a year -Stephen McLawrence
