How Star Trek DS9 Snatched Its Finest Hour From the Jaws of Delete

Three times, the writers of Deep Space Nine tried to crack this story — and three times, it fell apart. Government corruption on Bajor. A son exposing his father's conspiracy. Sisko carrying the weight alone. Nothing worked, until a fourth-night idea, a captain's log framed as a confession, and a glass of scotch finally cracked it open. This is the production history behind "In the Pale Moonlight" — one of Deep Space Nine's most acclaimed episodes, and one that very nearly never found its shape. From Peter Allan Fields' original Watergate-inspired pitch, to Michael Taylor's Zimmermann Telegram-inspired forgery angle, to Ronald D. Moore's late-night rewrite that finally broke the story, this video traces how the episode got made, what got cut, and why the title itself is a misremembered line from a 1989 comic book movie.
