Lyrics: TONIGHT Verse 1 Help me. A psychiatrist said, “Don’t mix the alcohol with everything you take.” But God, tonight the pain is too much, and I just need a break and to feel alive again. I’m not chasing some wild party, I’m not drinking to forget. I’m trying to find one drop of joy when all I feel is severe emotional pain. Maybe some people drink to celebrate, to laugh and have fun, And maybe some are holding up a glass just trying to survive, like me tonight. But underneath the bubbles, underneath the twinkle lights, there’s a woman who is exhausted trying to not die tonight. Pre-Chorus I did the right thing. I spoke the truth. I tried to stop it happening to someone else. So tell me why the person who reported harm became the one who had to pay for it in the end. Chorus TONIGHT, I DON’T NEED ANOTHER WAR. I’ve already fought more battles than I ever asked for. I don’t need another question. I don’t need another fight. I need somebody to support me and help me through tonight. Because I’m tired of being strong for people who don’t care about anyone but themselves and enjoyed seeing people hurt. I’m tired of proving I was injured from work, while I’m standing here so lost. God, if You can hear me, let the good guys win. Verse 2 I was bullied in a workplace where I gave them years of me. So I wrote the Work Healthy Safety Risk report thinking truth might set things free. I wanted accountability. I wanted something good to grow. I wanted the next person walking in to never hurt the way I know. Instead my mind collapsed beneath it. I became the emergency. Locked down inside a psychiatric ward, barely recognising me. Then another hospital. Another bed. Another unfamiliar room. While insurers kept demanding things as though recovery could resume between their forms and phone calls, their questions day and night. They want another piece of me. I’m trying to stay alive. Verse 3 I went into EMDR and dug beneath the deepest wounds. Back through every frightening room, every memory, every mark. From the roots up through the trauma, I walked willingly through hell, because I thought if I could face it maybe someday I’d get well. Then a man who knew how fragile my whole nervous system was sat across from me without compassion, like humanity was something he didn’t have. Degrees can teach you terminology. Titles can give you rank. But letters hanging on a wall don’t put compassion in your veins. You can know the words for trauma and still fail to recognise the human being sitting there with terror in her eyes. Ted Bundy had the same degree in psychology. Bridge And now the question haunts me: Did I work for the bad guys? Was I standing at the doorway while somebody else walked inside believing they would be treated fairly because that’s what I believed too? Was I simply one more innocent piece inside a system I never knew? I welcomed people kindly. I remembered every face. I thought that I was helping them walk into a safer place. I didn’t know. God, I didn’t know. And that distinction matters too. A pawn cannot see the whole board when somebody else controls the moves. Help me tonight.
