It's May 1848 in Independence, Missouri. You're a 31-year-old cooper from Ohio, you just spent a big bite of your savings on six oxen, and Oregon's Willamette Valley is about 2,000 miles west. Most of it, you'll walk. Would you make it? Follow one family, built from real emigrant diaries and records, through every choice: what to pack, what to leave in the grass, how to cross the Kansas, the Platte and the Snake, and the final gamble at The Dalles: raft the Columbia, or pay the Barlow Road toll around Mount Hood. Spoiler: the real danger wasn't a war party. It was in a tin cup. Which would you pick at The Dalles, the Columbia or the Barlow Road? Tell me in the comments. Every episode drops you into a real moment in American history and asks one question: would you make it? Subscribe and ride along. The family in this video is a composite drawn from real diaries and records, not one real person. Casualty context follows historians such as John D. Unruh Jr. #OregonTrail #AmericanHistory #WouldYouMakeIt 00:00 Cold Open: The Oxen Receipt in Independence 00:59 Packing List: Flour, Bacon, and the Furniture You'll Regret 02:24 Danger 1: The Slow Killer on the Platte 04:19 Danger 2: Rivers, Worn-Out Oxen, and the Axle 06:04 Danger 3: Tolls, Traders, and the Real Numbers 08:05 The Blue Mountains, the Final Fork, and Your Verdict Sources: California State Parks – The Wagon (Joel Palmer 1847 journal, provisions list) Food on the Oregon Trail (Palmer's per-adult list) Nebraska Studies – The Oregon Trail Britannica – Oregon Trail Oregon Encyclopedia – Oregon Trail (William L.
