kelp forest snorkeling & hearing WHALE SONGS | Cape Town Coastal Getaway

Welcome back to another ocean-inspired video and snorkeling vlog 🌊 ✨ We planned a weekend getaway to one of our favourite places in Cape Town - Simons Town! We have visited this town so many times and each time we visit, we try snorkel at least once. As soon as we arrived, we waisted no time and went straight to one of the dive spots, called Shark Alley (don’t worry, no big scary sharks here…yet lol). The conditions for the weekend was suppose to be perfect, with amazing visibility and little to no wind. In winter, the water usually ranges from 13-15 degrees, but can drop to 10 or 11 deg 🥶 But with the colder water, you normally have amazing visibility. It’s a worthy payoff, if you stay in the water for less than 30mins! While we were on the beach kitting up, a man approached us with the biggest smile on his face, to let us know that there were whales in the area and that we will likely be able to hear them when we go out. Let me tell you, we were in the water so fast and kept our ears peeled the whole time. What was strange is that we could not actually hear them clearly with our own ears. It was only when they were closer that we could actually hear their calls. There was a squeaky sound accompanying the whale sounds, which makes us wonder whether there were dolphins too? 🐋 🐬 Unfortunately my mask started fogging up and the water became murky, which makes it difficult to see clearly and the chilly water started getting to us. We slowly made our way back to the beach. After arriving at our accommodation and warming up with some hot chocolate, we went for a walk through the streets, partly trying to find the remaining afternoon sun and also to explore new areas. We soon felt the hunger creeping up on us, so we grabbed some pizzas and sat at one of our favourite place right by the beach. On our last day, we spent the time soaking up the sun by the beach. We drove to miller’s point and I were blown away by how crystal clear the water was. It was honestly so magical.
