How does a web page reach your screen, and how do we measure how well a network performs? In this Unit I lecture (Part 2 of the introduction) you will follow a web request from browser to web server (URL, domain name, IP address and packets), compare packet switching with circuit switching, understand store-and-forward networks, learn the four key performance metrics (throughput, delay, jitter and drop rate), and meet two physical layer ideas: signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and bit error rate (BER).
