This is my FIRST DAY playing Unreal Tournament 99 Deathmatch with a PS5 DualSense Edge controller + gyro aiming!
Instead of using my normal mouse and keyboard setup, I decided to put the DualSense Edge to the test in real UT99 Deathmatch matches against some very good and experienced players.
I’m still learning the gyro, adjusting my aim, movement, weapon switching, and figuring out how to make everything work together in such a fast-paced arena shooter. UT99 was designed around mouse and keyboard, so trying to keep up with experienced players using a modern PS5 controller definitely makes things interesting!
There are going to be mistakes—this is Day 1—but there are also moments where the gyro starts clicking and you can see the potential of the setup.
🎮 Controller: PS5 DualSense Edge
🎯 Aim: Gyro
💀 Game Mode: Deathmatch
🖥️ Game: Unreal Tournament (1999)
🔥 Experience: DAY ONE with DualSense Edge + Gyro
Can a DualSense Edge + gyro actually become a competitive way to play UT99 Deathmatch? This is just the beginning.
If you enjoy UT99, Unreal Tournament Deathmatch, classic arena shooters, gyro aiming, controller experiments, or watching someone learn a completely different way to play, stick around. I’ll be continuing to practice and see how far I can take this setup.

⚠️ QUICK NOTE ABOUT VIDEO JUDDER / CHOPPINESS
If you're watching one of my videos and the gameplay looks like it's randomly stuttering or juddering, it may actually be a YouTube playback issue on your device/browser rather than the video itself.
I did several tests with the exact same YouTube video and found a BIG difference depending on what I used to watch it:
• Google Chrome on my PC — smooth playback with almost no dropped frames
• 8GB Chromebook — smooth playback
• Microsoft Edge — noticeably more dropped frames and occasional judder
• Older 4GB Chromebook — heavy dropped frames and visible judder, especially at higher resolutions/fullscreen
If you're experiencing choppy gameplay, try:
Switch to Google Chrome if you're using another browser.
Right-click the YouTube video and select “Stats for nerds.”
Look at “Dropped Frames.” If that number is climbing quickly while the video is stuttering, your browser/device may be having trouble playing the video smoothly.
Try lowering the video resolution. For example, try 1080p60 instead of 1440p60 or 4K60.
If fullscreen makes the video more choppy, try watching it in the normal YouTube player instead.
During my testing, the SAME uploaded video could be smooth on one device/browser and judder on another.
So if the gameplay looks unusually choppy, check your dropped frames and try a different browser or resolution. 👍🎮
