NYCT S89 LIMITED Bus Ride: Onboard 2002 MCI D4500 2883 from Eltingville Transit Center to Bayonne

Taken on 8/31/17. A ride on 2002 MCI D4500 2883 on the S89 from Eltingville to Bayonne. This was taken during the reconstruction of the Bayonne Bridge. At the time, this particular run operated the 7:40 PM trip from Bayonne, which had to be detoured via the New Jersey Turnpike and Goethals Bridge since the Bayonne Bridge was closed by that time. Regular 40 foot buses were too slow on the NJ Turnpike to the point that it was considered hazardous. MCI buses are better equipped for highway traffic, which is why this particular run used an MCI. As of October 2018, several Prevost and an MCI dominate the S89 in the AM. 2882 is now only relegated to the S89 until retirement. As of 2021, all MCI D4500s on Staten Island have been retired.
