MP2014-36 - Clifton Daniel Home Movie - Russia - Nikolai Bulganin Garden Party

This silent home movie, shot by E. Clifton Daniel while he was traveling for his work with the New York Times, shows sites in Moscow, Russia, and a garden party hosted by Nikolai Bulganin, Premier of the Soviet Union. The content is non-sequential: it jumps back and forth primarily between Moscow sites and the garden party. The garden party took place on August 7, 1955, at Semenovskoe-Otrada, the estate of Nikolai Bulganin, Premier of the Soviet Union. Bulganin is seen greeting guests and foreign dignitaries, including British Minister Cecil Parrott. Soviet Defense Minister Georgi K. Zhukov, Communist Party First Secretary Nikita Khrushchev, Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov, Former Premier Georgy Malenkov, and First Deputy Premier Anastas Mikoyan are also present. Guests attend an outdoor lunch and take boat rides on a small lake. US Ambassador to the Soviet Union Charles Bohlen rows a canoe. People pick raspberries and strawberries from a berry patch, including Khrushchev and Marshal Ivan Konev. Moscow sites include Red Square, Saint Basil's Cathedral under scaffolding, the All-Union Industrial Exhibition area (now VDNKh), the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman sculpture, the Fountain of the Friendship of the Peoples, and the Siberia Pavilion, among other nearby sites.
