Footage: National Films & Sounds Archive Australia (NFSA) The Thylacine was a unique carnivorous marsupial that looked like a cross between a large dog and a cat but carried its young in a pouch like a kangaroo. Its most distinctive feature was the series of dark brown stripes running across its sandy-colored lower back and tail which gave it the common name Tasmanian Tiger. It possessed a remarkably stiff tail that could not wag and a jaw that could open to an incredible eighty-degree angle which was wider than almost any other mammal. Though it moved with a somewhat awkward gait it was a persistent hunter that stalked prey through the forests and grasslands of Tasmania. Because it was a marsupial the females had rear-facing pouches to protect their joeys from thick vegetation while running. Tragically the species was hunted to extinction by early settlers who viewed them as a threat to livestock and the last known individual died in captivity in 1936. 👉 Learn More About The Thylacine Here: https://www.wildlifeopedia.org/hello/...
