Pere Marquette 1225 Returns to the Mainline!

May of 2026 marked history, as the Pere Marquette steam locomotive #1225 rode its home rails on the Saginaw Subdivision for the first time since its revenue service. The weekend of the 16th was a novelty, as The Steam Railroading Institute and Lake State Railway hosted multiple employee appreciation trips between Saginaw and Flint Michigan. The pinnacle of this event came on Monday, as the locomotive pulled an 80 car long grain train from Novi to Saginaw Michigan at track speed. Railfans got to witness something they thought would never see the light of day again. Something we all thought was strictly relegated to old archive tapes from before the turn of the century. The cherry on top is the fact that this happened probably just before all that old railroad infrastructure becomes sterile and modernized. What a treat!
