Could Khyber Pakhtunkhwa be heading for a change of chief minister? Siddique Jan joins Umar Bashir to discuss Sohail Afridi's political future, PTI's internal divisions and the resignation of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.
In this interview, Siddique Jan examines the competing groups within PTI over the chief minister's position. He discusses possible replacements for Sohail Afridi, the possibility of disqualification, Imran Khan's approval and the pressure being exerted by PTI's social media supporters.
Jan also shares his account of a PTI parliamentary party meeting. According to him, more than 70 members attended, but only one spoke in favour of resistance. He criticises the leadership's approach to negotiations and discusses an alleged suggestion that party leaders should seek forgiveness from an unnamed influential figure.
The conversation covers Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), its proposed national conference in the first week of November and plans for nationwide organisation. Jan also discusses the party leadership's response to protests and Murad Saeed's political stance.
On the judiciary, Umar Bashir and Siddique Jan discuss Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani's resignation and the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments. Jan explains why he believes Babar Sattar and other judges should remain in office rather than resign. The interview concludes with his assessment of a possible 28th Constitutional Amendment, the NFC and provincial powers.
Topics discussed:
• Sohail Afridi's political future and a possible change of KP chief minister
• PTI factions, leadership decisions and Imran Khan's approval
• Negotiations, resistance and Jan's account of the parliamentary meeting
