Nepal Disaster: 691 Dead, 3,044 Missing as Second Barrier Lake Remains a Threat Nepal’s devastating flood has now claimed 691 lives, with 3,044 people still missing. Rescue operations were suspended Friday as an upstream barrier lake began overflowing, forcing crews on both sides of the border to pull back. USGS has also confirmed there was no earthquake—the seismic signal came from the collapse itself. Bodies have been recovered more than 150 kilometers downstream.
