What a commodity is, which parts of coaching already are one, and where a coach's value sits once program design is no longer it. Carl brings the question home from the live OPEX Method in the Dominican Republic, where a room of twenty-two coaches concluded at the end of program design day that program design is already a commodity. He opens by playing James a clip of himself from 2024 predicting exactly that, and James confirms nothing has changed except the timeline. From there they build a five step model of economic value, commodity, good, service, experience, and transformation, and map coaching onto it: knowledge is the commodity, the program is the good, and the test for a commodity is whether anyone can tell who made it. The back half is about the coach in the seat. Why the realization produces shame and a crisis of purpose, why James says the answers are simpler than the industry lets on, what the performance coach should hear differently, and Carl's story of a barbell in the Dominican that turned a sixty minute argument into a changed mind. They close on what to lean into in 2026, the exact sentence James would say to a client to move dependency on knowledge toward zero, and what CoachRx is and is not building.
