Andak Proat (អន្ទាក់ព្រ័ត្រ) — “Rawhide Cord Trap” | Cambodian Traditional Music on Khim Experience the beauty of Cambodian traditional music through “Andak Proat” (អន្ទាក់ព្រ័ត្រ) — a traditional Khmer melody whose title refers to a rawhide cord trap. This melody takes its name from a traditional trap made using braided rawhide cord, traditionally prepared from strips of cowhide, buffalo hide, or other cattle hide. Like many traditional Khmer melodies, its title connects the music to everyday life, traditional knowledge, and the cultural practices of Cambodian communities. In this special performance, “Andak Proat” is beautifully played on the Khim (ឃឹម) by Mr. Sang Phea (សាំង ភា), a Cambodian traditional musician. The Khim is a traditional Cambodian hammered dulcimer. Its bright, resonant tones bring a distinctive character, warmth, and delicacy to this cherished Khmer melody.
