Day 8 – Gaumukh Trek Begins | Bhojwasa Stay
Today was finally the day we had been waiting for—we were going to start the Gaumukh Trek. Unlike most trekkers who begin early in the morning, our plan got delayed because Karan had some work and reached late. I had already returned to the hotel thinking we would postpone the trek, but as soon as Karan arrived, we decided to go ahead anyway.
By the time we started, it was already 12 noon. Luckily, we somehow managed to get the trekking permit and were literally the last people allowed to enter the trail that day.
The trek begins from the entrance of Gangotri National Park, where our permits were verified and the mandatory forest entry fee was paid. From there, we stepped into one of the most beautiful Himalayan landscapes I have ever seen.
The 18 km trek to Bhojwasa was filled with breathtaking scenery. Throughout the trail, the mighty Bhagirathi River flowed beside us, making every step even more memorable. As we kept climbing higher, some of the Himalayas' most iconic peaks came into view—Nandi Parbat, Bhagirathi I & II, Mount Meru, the magnificent Mount Shivling, and many other towering snow-covered mountains. Every turn on the trail revealed another spectacular view, making it impossible not to stop for photos and simply admire nature.
After trekking for nearly 7 hours, we finally reached Bhojwasa at around 7 PM. We stayed overnight in an ashram surrounded by the peaceful Himalayas. It had been a long and tiring day, but standing amidst those majestic mountains made every step worth it.
Tomorrow, the journey continues towards the sacred Gaumukh Glacier, the origin of the holy River Ganga.
