We spent a few more wet days in our beautiful bay on the north side of Nuku Hiva waiting for a good weather window for a 5 day passage to the Tuamotu islands. We met up with some other sailor friends who told us that we needed to have a bio security check so we headed back around to the capital to restock and get this done.
A lovely man came on board to check Rosie for wood boring insects and check we had no honey and had not bought any fruit/vegetables/plants or animals from Panamá. Certificate was issued and we set off for another lovely sail. Very calm conditions with beautiful sunsets and stars until we approached our first chosen coral atoll, Raingiroa. We had heard you have to time your passage through the narrow pass carefully, when the tides are running there is a strong current (faster than Rosie can go!) and big waves. We waited and waited, but were getting battered by waves outside so decided to surf on through.
Inside the lagoon it was lovely and calm for our first coral bommies anchoring. We knew the theory, find a nice patch of sand to place the anchor and float the chain with fenders to stop the chain wrapping around any bommies, damaging coral and potentially leaving us unable to get the anchor back up! We think we have done OK.
Met up with some friends we met in Panamá for pizza and are gearing up to explore this incredible place.
Thanks for watching
