Urban Runner (PC) Playthrough

A playthrough of Sierra On-line's 1996 graphic adventure for PCs running Windows 95, Urban Runner. Once the game is over, I replayed the final scene to show the bad ending. You can find that at 1:43:38. Max Gardener, an American reporter in Paris on assignment, has found himself neck deep in some nasty business. His drug trafficking informant has turned up dead at a spa, and folks on both sides of the law are now throwing their all into hunting him down. Urban Runner is an FMV-based point-and-click adventure from Sierra subsidiary Coktel Vision, a French studio best known for their mind-bogglingly surreal sense of style. Urban Runner isn't nearly as offbeat as the likes of Inca, Goblins, or    • The Bizarre Adventures of Woodruff and the...  , but like its spiritual precursor (Lost in Time), it's a thoroughly uncanny and entertaining experience. Over the course of four CDs, you have to help Max (played by Brandon Massey, previously seen as Detective Carey in    • Police Quest: Open Season (PC) Playthrough  ) prove his innocence by guiding him through several self-contained scenarios. These "episodes" typically involve picking up and using random objects, solving puzzles, and evading whichever threat that happens to be closing in at the moment. The story and the awkward English dub are nothing to write home about, but the game has a fun energy behind it, and the puzzles provide a nice bit of interactivity that prevent it from devolving into a brainless series of quicktime events.
