In this episode of Legacy Conversations, we speak with author and attorney Marius Scheepers, who served as a young Signals officer with 32 Battalion during the South African Border War. Marius was only 18 years old when he entered a very different world. He takes us through his experiences during 1983, an important period in the Border War, and discusses life and operations with 32 Battalion from the perspective of a Signals officer. The conversation also examines the fighting around Cuvelai, its significance within the wider conflict, and Marius's perspective as both a veteran and later historian. Altogether, Marius spent an extraordinary 13 continuous months in Angola. This is more than military history told from documents. It is the recollection of someone who experienced these events as a very young soldier and who has spent decades considering their historical significance.
