Feel invited to join my journey through "Through the Barricades" by Spandau Ballet (1986). One of the great ballads of the 1980s, this song has always had a special kind of emotional and almost epic quality — while still feeling deeply intimate. Bringing it to the piano was a particular challenge. The song’s characteristic picking-guitar pattern is so closely woven into its identity that I wanted to preserve as much of its movement and character as possible. Finding a natural way to translate that pattern to piano became one of the central parts of the arrangement. The piano interpretation is accompanied by a handcrafted backing track, created to give the arrangement space while preserving some of the atmosphere and scale of the original. 🎧 I hope this version offers a few quiet minutes with a song that has stayed with so many of us since the 1980s.
