Mount Kaputar National Park August 2026

A mate and I headed into Mount Kaputar National Park to find some unusual rock columns atop a rarely visited peak. The trip didn’t quite go to plan. An unplanned detour turned into four hours of bush bashing through the rain, with thick regrowth from the fires making the terrain difficult to navigate and move through. We eventually called it for the day and made it to the summit the following day. The views and rock formations at the top were well worth the effort, with some really impressive features along the way. A special shoutout to Jo for managing to get a fire going with a Ferro rod after two days of rain. A wet, challenging and memorable trip into a less travelled part of Mount Kaputar National Park.
