Can a 65% student be better than a 95% topper? Does beating a child ever make them learn? And if Google and AI know everything, what is a teacher for? ଜଣେ ଶିକ୍ଷକଙ୍କ ଭୁଲ ପିଢ଼ି ପିଢ଼ି ରହିଯାଏ। In this episode of Ama Bartalapa, we sit down with Dr Brajabandhu Panda, a teacher of teachers who spent his career training the people who teach Odisha's children. From school inspections and B.Ed classrooms to SCERT, he has seen Odisha's education system from the inside, and he doesn't hold back. We talk about what really makes an ideal teacher, why a disciplined classroom and a frightened classroom can look the same, what marks can and can't tell you about a child, why "Maad ku Mahadev darante" is the wrong lesson, and why he believes we now have more educated people but fewer humane ones. In the last part, we step into Riti Kavya, the ornate, musical Odia poetry of Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja. Dr Panda decodes verses where one word carries three meanings and explains why farmers, travellers and scholars all sang Bhanja's lines from memory.
