When is it safe to plan your next pregnancy after a C-section? 🤰🏻❤️
In this video, Dr. Arooj Fatima, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, discusses pregnancy spacing after a C-section and why giving your body enough time to recover can be important before planning another pregnancy.
In this video, you will learn:
🩺 Why recovery time matters after a C-section
Your body needs time to recover from childbirth, rebuild nutritional and iron stores, and regain strength.
⏳ How long should you wait before the next pregnancy?
The World Health Organization has recommended waiting at least 24 months after a live birth before attempting the next pregnancy to reduce health risks for mothers and babies. Individual recommendations can vary based on your medical and obstetric history.
❤️ Why your previous pregnancy matters
If you experienced complications, have had multiple C-sections, or have other medical concerns, discuss your plans with your gynecologist before trying for another pregnancy.
👶 What about normal delivery or twins?
Pregnancy spacing is important after any birth, whether the previous delivery was vaginal or by C-section. The timing of the next pregnancy is ultimately a decision for the couple, ideally made with appropriate medical guidance.
🌸 Give your body time to recover
Good nutrition, iron and vitamin recovery, breastfeeding, rest, and appropriate postpartum care can all be part of preparing for a future pregnancy.
Important: There is no single interval that is appropriate for every woman. Your age, health, previous pregnancy, number of C-sections, complications and other individual factors should be considered with your gynecologist.
