Story of Devi Mookambika (മൂകാംബിക ദേവിയുടെ കഥ )

Story of Kollur Mukhambika Devi temple Long ago an asura named kaumasura procured boons due to Lord sivas grace. He started disturbing yajnas and Devi devotees . Saptarishis conducted yajna for his destruction.Guru sukracharya informed kaumasara that his death would be due to a woman. Kaumasara started his penance on Shiva for changing this. He became dumb when Shiva appeared due to the grace of Vakdevi inorder to save earth. He was then named mookasura. His act of misconduct towards rishis continued due to which kola maharishi did yaga to please Devi parvathy. Devi procured divine powers of all gods together and killed mookasura at maranakatte. Devi was named Mookambika then. Adi sankaracharya did penance on kudajadri hills,when Devi appeared he requested Devi to come with him to Kerala as there was no temple for saraswathi here. Devi agreed on a condition that he should not be turning back to look for her till they reach their destination and if he does Devi would not then follow. Sankaracharyar walked front followed by Devi. When they reached below kudajadri Devi tricked sakaracharya by making the sound of Devi's noopura silent. Adi sankarar turned to look for Devi and she stopped following. On request of adi sankarar Devi agreed to give darshana for her devotees at chotanikara in the morning and then return back to mookhambika by mid day.
