A slipper on a sea cliff. A phone cover in the rocks. And one last call, made that night, to a number its owner says he had not used in ten years. In Hawaii, people vanish from the most beautiful places on earth, and the records they leave behind raise more questions than they answer. This is a documentary episode about real missing persons cases on Maui, the Big Island, Kauai and Oahu: hikers, travelers and residents who walked into volcano country, sea cliffs and rainforest valleys and never came home. We go through what the public record actually shows, the details that do not fit, and the Hawaiian beliefs about the land that islanders still take seriously, from Pele and Poliahu to the night marchers. Hawaiian legends and beliefs are presented as cultural history and folklore, not as explanations of any case.
