In one of them the sun god takes the form of a great cat and defeats the serpent of darkness, so that morning can come again. Cats were sacred to Bastet, goddess of the home, of music, and of protection, and were kept and mourned in Egyptian households for thousands of years. By Cleopatra's time, a cat asleep at the edge of a bed was still a small piece of that same protection. This music is made for sleeping.
