Data Center MEP System presents Module 08B of the Data Center Fire Protection advanced training series: Fire Water, Fire Pumps, Hydrants, FDC and Brigade Interface.
This module engineers the unbroken fire-water chain from approved demand and usable storage to suction, fire pumps, distribution, hydrants, FDC, brigade access and witnessed remote proof. It compares above-ground positive-suction and underground vertical-turbine arrangements; defines electric, diesel and jockey-pump roles; separates sensing, relief and test-return paths; and coordinates pressure settings, zoning, PRVs and emergency interfaces. A focused calculation workbook then connects tank volume, TDH, NPSH, pump curves, drivers, fuel, ventilation, ring mains, hydrants, FDC pressure, surge and acceptance evidence to practical project decisions.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Freeze the governing fire-water demand, duration, source strategy, availability target and pressure-zone architecture before equipment selection
Compare two-cell above-ground positive-suction systems with underground wet-pit and vertical-turbine pump arrangements
Trace electric, diesel and jockey pumps through dedicated suctions, check/isolation valves, controllers, sensing lines, relief paths and test returns
Calculate usable and gross storage, sprinkler/standpipe duty, TDH, NPSH available and margin, pump power, diesel derating and jockey-pump duty
Verify campus ring-main velocity and residual pressure, hydrant isolation cases, standpipe demand, FDC apparatus pressure, PRV duty and surge risk
Execute safe shut-off, churn, rated-flow and 150% pump tests with consistent PI, PO, flow, speed, driver and restoration records
Coordinate hydrants, FDC, staging, tank refill, access routes and pump-room information with the AHJ/Damkar brigade pre-plan
Govern ITM, one-cell maintenance, impairment, compensatory measures, operator response, restoration and controlled lifecycle evidence
