The Churchyard where William Wallace became Guardian of Scotland

In this video I revisit an Old Kirkyard from centuries ago. A few years ago in 1298, the Scottish Knight, Sir William Wallace, was declared the Guardian of Scotland in this very Churchyard! He served as Guardian until his defeat in July 1298 and in August 1305, Wallace was captured near Glasgow, and handed over to King Edward I of England, who had him hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason and crimes against English civilians. Also to add to the history of this very old churchyard, the Ancestors (The Murray family on his mothers side) of the 32nd President of the USA, Franklin D Roosevelt, lie buried here! The graves are three large marble slabs laid into the back wall and lie in their very own section of the old church called the 'Murray Aisle'. A good number of names are commemorated on the graves, several having historic stories of their own. Roosevelt even named his Scottish Terrier 'Outlaw Murray of Falahill' in remembrance of his Scottish Heritage. It is crazy that a place with so much history is across the street from a Post Sorting Office. Overall a great visit!
