I visited the St. Louis Galleria on a Saturday, expecting a busy day at one of the area’s best-known malls. Instead, it felt unusually quiet. I walked through the mall and Dillard’s four floors, where I sometimes saw only one person at a time. I also noticed that the mall’s escalators I came across weren’t operating. Later, I checked out the food court and shared prices for a few items, including pizza and smoothies. I’ve spent time at malls in Johannesburg, including Fourways, so I couldn’t help comparing the atmosphere.
