On Sunday, October 4, 2026, after a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game at Raymond James Stadium, a driverless Waymo carrying a group of young men headed north on North Himes Avenue while all lanes had been redirected for southbound traffic, according to WFLA. Videos posted by passenger Matt Reardon on TikTok and sent to WFLA by Michael Ripatranzone show the riders leaving the car, which stayed stuck blocking a lane. Waymo said: "In Tampa this week, a Waymo vehicle briefly entered a temporary one-way street before correcting the issue. We are looking into this event so we can learn more and improve." Waymo opened its driverless service to the public in Tampa on September 1, 2026. In July, a driverless Tesla Robotaxi was spotted going the wrong way on Armenia Avenue the day after that service launched in Tampa, on a road that is always one-way. No injuries were reported.
