Throwing Stones - History of Curling

While the precise origins of the sport of curling are unknown, the first written evidence of the sport was in Scotland. In writings dating from 1541, there is a reference to 'a contest with stones thrown upon ice' at Paisley Abbey in Renfrewshire where a monk played a form of the game of curling with a relative of the Abbot of the Abbey.
