POV : Your Life at Every Rank as a Musketeer in the French Army

What was life like for a French musketeer in Louis XIV's army? This illustrated POV story moves through 12 ranks of the 17th-century French army, from an unpaid cadet to a Marshal of France. Bertrand de Moncla arrives with a sword, a horse his father can barely afford, and no place on the army's payroll. His friend Hugues has a letter of introduction; Bertrand has the horse. That combination takes them into the King's Musketeers, but the blue coat comes with battles, inspections, and choices that follow them for years. Their story passes through the Battle of the Dunes and the Siege of Maastricht, then follows other officers as they command companies, regiments, and armies during the Franco-Dutch War. Louis XIV, d'Artagnan, and the Peace of Nijmegen all appear along the way. Each promotion brings more authority—and a greater distance from the men who live with its consequences. The POV characters are fictional; the campaigns and historical figures form the backdrop. #FrenchMusketeers #LouisXIV #MilitaryHistory
