Welcome to Auto Magazine channel. Today we are diving into reviewing the refresh 2025 Acura MDX Type-S.
The 2025 Acura MDX Type S strikes a unique balance between practicality and performance, making it an exciting option for SUV enthusiasts. On one hand, you’ve got the practical side—perhaps a couple of fresh pies in the passenger footwell—while on the other hand, the MDX Type S offers a thrilling driving experience with its 355-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter engine. Thanks to features like adaptive dampers, air suspension, and Brembo brakes, you won’t have to sacrifice comfort or stability, even when the road gets twisty. With the 31-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo and a smooth driving experience, this SUV ensures both the driver and cargo, including those delicate pies, remain unscathed.
The updates for 2025 focus more on refinement and user-friendly enhancements. The AcuraWatch safety suite has been upgraded, featuring a new front camera, radar system, and the introduction of lane-change assist. This feature allows the vehicle to switch lanes on highways when adaptive cruise control is engaged. While lane-change assist works as advertised, it’s almost as easy to just manually steer. Still, it’s a convenient addition for those who want the latest in driver assistance technology.
Visually, the 2025 MDX Type S retains its commanding presence. The front bumper now features larger air intakes, and the grille sports a sharper, more refined mesh design. The Type S removes the surrounding grille frame for a more performance-oriented appearance. With its wide stance, sculpted hood, and 20-inch wheels (21-inch for the Type S), the MDX stands out in a sea of large SUVs. The sharp lines and elegant details ensure it’s easy to spot, whether in a parking garage or pulling up behind you on the road.
Performance numbers for the 2025 model are expected to remain consistent with its predecessor. The previous MDX Type S could hit 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds, with a stopping distance of 180 feet from 70 mph. We anticipate similar performance this year. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Type S is rated at 17 mpg city, 21 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. The 2024 model even exceeded its highway estimate in real-world testing, so the 2025 version may offer a similar advantage.
The Type S also offers a Sport+ driving mode, which firms up the suspension and sharpens throttle response for more dynamic driving. While the extra noise and stiffness of Sport+ mode are enjoyable, we found that combining the louder exhaust note with the smoother ride of Comfort mode provided the best experience—especially for those trips with precious cargo, be it passengers or pastries. The MDX Type S’s plush, contrast-stitched seats and bolsters offer plenty of support without sacrificing comfort, ensuring a relaxed ride for both driver and passengers.
In terms of value, the mid-level MDX trims offer a sensible balance of features and performance, but it’s hard to resist the allure of the turbocharged engine in the Type S. This three-row SUV combines impressive power with the comfort and space you expect from a luxury vehicle, making it a standout choice for drivers who want both performance and practicality in their daily ride.
