Was Jesus really born on December 25th?
The Bible does not give us an exact date for Christ’s birth, but Scripture does provide clues that allow us to narrow down the approximate time of year. In this message, Elder Adolf Dietterle examines the biblical calendar, the priestly courses established under King David, the service of Zacharias, and the timing of Elizabeth’s pregnancy to explore when Jesus was born.
Beginning with God’s appointed times and the biblical calendar, Elder Adolf walks through Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Luke, and 1 Chronicles to connect the timing of the priestly course of Abijah with Elizabeth’s conception and, subsequently, the conception and birth of Jesus.
The conclusion presented from this biblical study is that while the precise day cannot be established, the timing points to the fall rather than December — approximately September to October.
The message also considers an important question: Does Scripture instruct us to celebrate the birthday of Christ?
The birth of Jesus was certainly announced by the heavenly host, and His coming into the world is a profound event. But Scripture also points us toward another coming announcement — when the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ.
“The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.” — Revelation 11:15
