📖 Genesis 1–2:3 — “The Eternal God Who Brings Order Through His Word” Believers in Jesus Christ can glorify the eternal God as we trust and obey His Word. Biblical / Cultural Context Genesis was written by Moses to the children of Israel after God delivered them from Egypt. They needed to know who God was, who they were, and why He had rescued them. Before God gave Israel instructions for how to live, He first revealed Himself as the eternal Creator. The God of Israel was not like the false gods of Egypt or the nations around them. He alone existed before creation, He alone spoke creation into existence, and He alone brings order, life, and purpose through His Word. Genesis 1 shows that the God who brought order into creation could also bring order into Israel’s chaos—and into ours. Passage Outline I. Creation Itself Reveals God’s Eternal Glory (Genesis 1:1–2) II. Good Is Produced When Creation Operates Within God’s Intended Design (Genesis 1:3–25) III. As We Trust and Obey God’s Word, We Can Reflect His Character to the World (Genesis 1:26–2:3) 1️⃣ Creation Itself Reveals God’s Eternal Glory (Genesis 1:1–2) 📌 Before anything existed, God already was, and creation begins by revealing His eternal glory. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (v.1). The universe had a beginning, but God did not. He is eternal, self-existent, and above all things. Even when the earth was “without form, and void,” the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (v.2). Creation does not explain God—God explains creation. 💡Trust the eternal God more than the wisdom of this world. Are you letting the world shape your thinking more than the God who existed before the world? Study and obey God’s Word, because His wisdom comes from eternity. 2️⃣ The Goodness of God Is Produced When We Obey God’s Word (Genesis 1:3–25) 📌 God brings order through His Word, and creation is called good as it functions according to His design. Again and again, Genesis says, “Then God said,” and creation responds. God forms light, sky, land, seas, vegetation, sun, moon, stars, birds, sea creatures, and land animals. He names parts of creation, showing His ownership over all things. What Egypt worshiped as gods were only created things under the authority of Israel’s God. When creation operates according to God’s Word, The Goodness of God Is Produced. 💡Bring your life under the authority of God’s Word. Where is there chaos in your life because you are not operating according to God’s design? Obey what God has spoken, because His goodness is produced when His Word is applied. 3️⃣ As We Trust and Obey God’s Word, We Can Reflect His Character to the World (Genesis 1:26–2:3) 📌 Humanity was created in God’s image to know Him, represent Him, and live from His provision. God made male and female in His image and gave them authority to rule over creation (vv.26–28). He also provided what they needed to flourish (vv.29–30). Then God rested on the seventh day, not because He was tired, but because creation lacked nothing. Human beings most clearly reflect God’s image when they live in fellowship with Him and trust His Word. 💡Reflect God’s character by trusting and obeying His Word. Are you opening God’s Word so you can know Him, grow, and live out His calling? Let Scripture teach, correct, and equip you so your life displays the God who created you. 📖 Genesis 1:31 (NKJV) “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.” 🙏 Father, thank You that You are the eternal Creator who brings order, life, and purpose through Your Word. Help us trust You more than the wisdom of this world, obey what You have spoken, and reflect Your character to those around us. Teach us through Scripture so our lives glorify You. In Jesus’ Mighty name, Amen.
