I used to know a younger me
Who thought he knew how life would be
A thousand dreams inside his head
And promises we never kept
I found a picture yesterday
Of someone time had swept away
He had the world inside his hands
A thousand dreams, a thousand plans
He thought that life would turn out right
That every star would shine at night
But somewhere down that winding road
I became someone he'd never know
And every scar became a story
Every loss became a part of me
I wonder if he'd recognize
The man that I turned out to be
Here's to the man I never met
And all the dreams I haven't lost just yet
I didn't get the life we planned
But I did the best with what I had
Through every fall, through every tear
I found a way to still be here
And if you saw me standing now
I hope somehow you'd still be proud
Some friends became forgotten names
Some memories still feel the same
I learned that time won't always heal
And not all wounds are meant to disappear
I lost some things I can't replace
Found new beginnings in their place
And every time I lost my way
I found a reason left to stay
Here's to the man I never met
And all the dreams I haven't lost just yet
I didn't get the life we planned
But I did the best with what I had
Through every fall, through every tear
I found a way to still be here
And if you saw me standing now
I hope somehow you'd still be proud
If I could meet that younger boy
I'd tell him life still holds some joy
Not every dream will come to life
Not every wrong can turn out right
And if he asked, "Did we survive?"
I'd smile and look him in the eyes...
"We're still here, aren't we?"
HERE'S TO THE MAN I NEVER MET!
AND ALL THE DREAMS I HAVEN'T LOST JUST YET!
I DIDN'T GET THE LIFE WE PLANNED!
BUT I BECAME A DIFFERENT MAN!
THROUGH EVERY FALL, THROUGH EVERY TEAR!
I FOUND A WAY TO STILL BE HERE!
AND IF YOU SAW ME STANDING NOW!
I HOPE YOU'D LOOK AT ME WITH PRIDE!
I found that picture yesterday
And finally knew what I should say...
"I think we turned out okay."
