In this video, we begin an exploration of the northern part of Butler County, Kansas— the largest county in the state by land area and home to over 67,000 people. Starting at the Harvey County line, we focus on lesser-known places including ghost towns, unincorporated communities, and historical landmarks. Stops include Elbing, Cassidy, Potwin, Brainerd, and Whitewater, each with unique histories tied to the railroad, oil booms, school consolidations, and early settlement patterns. The video highlights the rise and fall of towns like Chelsea, now submerged beneath El Dorado Lake, and offers glimpses into local culture such as wild horses!
