A scenic motorcycle ride across the hills of Salland, Netherlands, from Ommen towards the Sallandse Heuvelrug and Holterberg. Ride along quiet Dutch roads through forest, purple heathland and the surprisingly hilly landscape of Overijssel. This route takes in a series of the named “bergs” of Salland — berg is Dutch for “mountain”: Besthmenerberg, Archemerberg, Lemelerberg, Hellendoornse Berg, Haarlerberg, Sprengenberg and Holterberg. Their heights are rather modest by mountain standards: roughly 34 to 78 metres above sea level, with the Archemerberg reaching 77.9 metres. The ride starts around Ommen and gradually heads south through the wooded hills near Lemele and Hellendoorn before reaching the Sallandse Heuvelrug. One of the highlights is the Holterberg, where the road opens out onto purple heathland — about as close as this part of the Netherlands gets to “Dutch mountains”.
