Servicing of Minidisc Multitracker Mixing Boards (Yamaha MD8)

After a week or so of good usage the thing decided to just cut out whilst filming and various problems have developed so thought that even though this board may not be saved, that I might do a video on basic mixing board servicing. Dust gradually accumulates inside, eventually causing scratchy noise or signal dropouts when adjusting gain, faders, or knobs. When this happens open the unit, blow out dust, treat pots and faders with contact cleaner, and relubricate them (something you should do with a reputable fader spray which I did not do here only because I know that this one was too banged up to survive long term..remember the old adage "Look at him and listen to me, look at him and understand me, look at both of us but understand no one, listen to my words and hear his face." This video demonstrates the process on a Minidisc model the Yamaha MD8 (also applicable to most cassette and hard disk multitrack recorders that have a mixing board section) and I am hoping that you can see the rather marked sound quality afterward. I also have not forgot the ear challenge I recently put out and will be preparing the winnings presently! Some of reasons why I did a clean as a way of "fixing" this board would be because I have often found on older analog gear that all it takes is for one pot to go bad and then it'll kill the whole signal underneath. Same as the DAW with effects and plugins, often the strips are built in parallel and linearly with the signal being sent down through a strip meaning that if there is a bad contact somewhere towards the end then there will be no sound or greatly reduced quality.
