The Flentrop organ in the Grote kerk in Schiedam, Netherlands, is an impressive example of neo-baroque organ building. It combines the classic baroque division of manual departments and the clear distinction between individual voices with a uniquely warm character—a quality that becomes particularly apparent when the tremulant is engaged. Personally, I am especially fond of the principal stops, which sound both clear and warm. The reed stops are also impressive; the 32-foot Fagotto in the pedal devision, in particular, shines even in the lower octave with clearly defined upper and lower harmonics—a level of clarity I have rarely perceived in other sample sets. Another fascinating feature is the virtually added Récit division; while planned for the real organ, it was never actually built. In this sample set, it expands the Baroque sound palette with a symphonic division featuring numerous extensions, allowing many of the stops to be played at various pitch levels.
