Emma and Steve play Hole 1 of the Orange Course at Cumberwell Park Golf Club, numbered Hole 28 in Cumberwell's overall course numbering.
Hole 28 is a short par 4 that immediately introduces you to the different character of the Orange Course.
There's plenty of fairway available, but positioning the tee shot still matters. Longer hitters can take on the green, but also risk going long into the rough, or worse
Although getting close doesn't necessarily make the hole easy. There are some severe slopes around the green, including a downhill section at the front, so this short par 4 can quickly become more complicated once you get the putter in your hands.
When Steve first became a member, the ground was very hard and fast, and he regularly hit driver from the tee, only to watch the ball run through the back of the green. Switching to 3-wood wasn't much better, finding both the left and right bunkers on different occasions.
These days, he's favouring a mid-iron from the tee, leaving a wedge into the green depending on the wind. Although for our videos he always hits driver
Cumberwell's five nine-hole courses use continuous hole numbers: Red 1–9, Yellow 10–18, Blue 19–27, Orange 28–36 and White 37–45.
This is Hole 28, the first hole on the Orange Course.
