From Masking to Mapping: Redefining Success as a Neurodivergent Professional by Itzel Yagual

Masking is often described as a survival skill, but it can also erode authenticity and capacity in technical workplaces. This lightning talk explores how neurodivergent professionals can move from masking to mapping—charting a path to career success rooted in identity rather than constant performance. Drawing from my lived experience as an Afro-Latina AuDHD identity strategist and doctoral research on self-efficacy, I’ll share practical insights on how professionals can reframe success, advocate for what they need, and build careers that don’t come at the cost of well-being.
