Track 01 of the Candlelight album, a collection of songs about life, love and everything in between.
BOOTS IN THE BAYOU
Been nursing this heartache all damn week,
Needed somewhere she couldn't find me.
So I headed south where the cypress grows,
Down an old dirt road where nobody goes.
There's a moonshine shack by the waterline,
Old boys drinking and killing time.
With a beat-up guitar and a bottle or two,
I found my boots in the bayou.
Then those Hurricanes kick in,
And I'm feeling alive again.
I'm sipping some Sazerac,
With a splash of Peychaud's in that.
From a moonshine shack to Bourbon Street,
Got that Louisiana fire underneath my feet.
She ain't on my mind like she used to be,
With my boots in the bayou and the night on me.
By sundown I was New Orleans bound,
French Quarter calling, so I hit that town.
Neon burning and the brass bands loud,
I disappeared into that Bourbon Street crowd.
Had a whiskey here, had a whiskey there,
Pretty little Cajun girl with flowers in her hair.
She pulled me close when the band broke through,
Said, "Boy, let's see what those boots can do."
Then those Hurricanes kick in,
And I'm feeling alive again.
I'm sipping some Sazerac,
With a splash of Peychaud's in that.
From a moonshine shack to Bourbon Street,
Got that Louisiana fire underneath my feet.
She ain't on my mind like she used to be,
With my boots in the bayou and the night on me.
Let that fiddle play, let that six-string roll,
Let that muddy Mississippi wash through my soul.
I came down here trying to drink her goodbye,
Now I'm raising my glass to a hell of a night.
Then those Hurricanes kick in,
And I'm feeling alive again.
I'm sipping some Sazerac,
With a splash of Peychaud's in that.
From a moonshine shack to Bourbon Street,
Got that Louisiana fire underneath my feet.
She ain't on my mind, yeah, I'm finally free,
With my boots in the bayou and the night on me.
Yeah, those Hurricanes kicked in,
And I forgot why I came here again.
From that moonshine shack to Bourbon Street,
Louisiana put me back on my feet.
Boots in the bayou...
That's alright with me.
