Ultron lost. That doesn't mean he was wrong.
Avengers Age of Ultron usually gets written off as the weakest chapter of the Infinity Saga, a rogue AI, a floating city, a meteor, and a villain nobody took seriously. But rewatch it after Endgame and something strange happens: the genocidal robot starts sounding less like a lunatic and more like the only one in the room who was paying attention. In this Marvel video essay we break Age of Ultron down piece by piece and follow its logic straight through Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
We get into where Ultron actually came from and why he sounds so unnervingly like Tony Stark, what he really meant when he called the Avengers killers, why Sokovia mattered far more than the body count, what the Sokovia Accords did to a team that opened this movie at its absolute peak, and why Wanda Maximoff's visions of Tony, Steve, Thor and Natasha are worth a very close second look. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Thanos, the Infinity Stones, Titan, Wakanda, Vormir, and the farmhouse scene everybody skips, it all connects, and the connection is uncomfortable.
Here's the thing: Ultron never knew Thanos existed. He'd never heard of the Infinity Gauntlet. So how did a rogue AI from 2015 call the ending of the entire Infinity Saga?
Stay to the end, the last piece only lands once you've seen everything before it. Did Ultron see something the Avengers spent four movies refusing to?
