The Beginning of Chinese Landscape Painting 画云台山记

Gu Kaizhi was addicted to practising Taoism and to becoming an immortal in his later years. He used to travel to Yuntai Mountain in Sichuan, and he was obsessed with the story about the founder of Taoism Zhang Daoling. A painting themed on immortalization was in the making. Although Gu did not draw the painting for some unknown reason, his article "Painting Yuntai Mountain" wrote about the layout of landscape and was reputed as the beginning of Chinese landscape painting.
