Pipecracking project from BAM Nelis De Ruiter bv
The Europaboulevard, main entrance to the city of Amsterdam, crossing the ring, is the gate to the RAI congress- and exhibition centre. The 4 way road is bordered on both sides with an parking area an eye-catching row of trees.
Just under these trees the rainwater sewer is situated on both sides of the main road.
Problem:
Complains from inhabitants and users of the parking sites about water on the road by heavy rainfall was the start of the project.
CCTV inspection results show a lot of tree roots inside the sewer and some other damages.
Rehabilitation of the sewer was necessary, but then the trees had to be removed.
BAM Nelis De Ruiter consulting and contractor was invited by Waternet (a kind of Waterboard in Amsterdam) on location, to solve this problem.
To rehabilitate a rainwater sewer DN 250 and 300 mm over a length of 1200 m, with on every 25 m a manhole/rainwater inlet, situated under trees, next to a heavy road.
In just 4 weeks we developed an overall plan to renew the sewer by using Pipe cracking / bursting.
The start and the end pit were situated at an existing manhole, two other manholes in between we eliminate and place normal inlet constructions. The new pipe was a PE 100 TS made by Wavin.
During the operation we experiment longer lengths up to 140 m and upsizing DN 250 mm to DN 300 mm all successful.
For the shorter lengths 30-35 m of connecting sewers DN 300 mm we used our CIPP technology (Nelis Infra Aarsleff JV) cured by steam.
