After the 3rd battle of Panipat, Punjab became a battleground between Sikhs and Afghans. The Sikhs, under Jassa Singh Ahluwalia and Charat Singh (grandfather of Ranjit Singh), fought the forces of Ahmad Shah Abdali and defeated them many times.
